This is a quick update for holders of a Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) in the UK regarding the BRP deadline. The UK Government initially announced that all BRPs would expire on 31 December 2024, with cardholders required to apply online for an eVisa before this date. However, due to a series of issues, this deadline has been extended to 31 March 2025.
If you hold a BRP, please register for your eVisa as soon as possible and link it to your passport. If you are travelling back to the UK, you can still enter with both your passport and BRP. It is also advisable to have your share code from your eVisa readily available.
The Home Office is establishing a 24-hour helpline for airlines that may have difficulties identifying documents. You can find this number on the Home Office website. At the time of writing, the number is: 0300 790 6268 or +44 (0)203 875 4669.
I know of several visa nationals who passed through UK Border Control in January 2025 without being asked to show their Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) or eVisa; they only presented their passports. I recently asked an ECO about the eVisa deadline, and they confirmed it has been delayed until 31 March 2025.
